Our client is now recruiting for  a Communications Officer.  You will be directly reporting to the Head of Expo News Service

Job Purpose      

Communications, Marketing & Sales

The Communications, Marketing & Sales department takes an integrated approach to raising awareness of and amplifying Expo 2020’s rich and diverse value proposition, driving engagement, participation and visitation both locally and internationally. The department also seeks to support the positioning of the UAE more widely, as well as enhance the impact of the Expo in both the pre and post event phases including its long -term legacy.


Marketing & Communications

The Marketing & Communications team is responsible for the overall positioning of Expo 2020 in domestic and International markets. This includes creating compelling stories and campaigns for a wide range of audiences across a breadth of platforms, liaising with internal and external stakeholders including Partners and International Participants to ensure consistency in message and identify opportunities for collaboration, and building relationships with local and International media. The team is also tasked with maintaining Expo owned channels including digital and social, upholding the integrity of the Expo 2020 brand across all touchpoints, facilitating commercial media partnerships, providing technical and content services to broadcasters, and managing sponsorship and brand ambassador relationships.


The team is in charge of maintaining crisis communications preparedness and readiness and developing a Marcomms-wide event time C3 plans to deliver a world-class communication at Expo 2020.


The Communications Officer will provide administrative support to the team (and external parties as directed) and action accordingly in line with Expo standards. They will support the communications team; execute administrative tasks and follow up on actions; prepare daily and weekly reports: maintain proper documentation for easy retrieval for audit; log all communications in a crisis situation; upload media material to Tawassul; coordinate meetings with other departments; organise the daily briefing meetings; support the team in additional projects as required.


This position will be part of the key management team responsible for delivering all aspects of communications for Expo 2020.


Reporting to the Head of Expo News Service, the Communications Officer will provide department coordination and management support to the team for day to day scoping, work planning and scheduling throughout the planning, readiness and operational delivery phases.


Core Accountabilities    

The Communications Officer responsibilities include:

  • Administrative support to the team (and external parties as directed) and action accordingly in line with Expo standards
  • Schedule and organise meetings, events and maintain agendas
  • Duly execute administrative tasks and follow up on actions
  • Maintain proper documentation for easy retrieval for audit
  • Comply with all contractual requirements
  • Log all communications activities in a crisis situation and support the crisis team as required
  • Maintain ‘crisis go bags’
  • Uploading information to Tawassul, the website and other Expo systems
  • Emailing PRL’s to key contacts
  • Scheduling interview requests
  • Gathering calendar information across the organization and sharing to relevant individuals – supporting with preparing the weekly media calendar
  • Collating media contacts and maintaining a database of media for press release distribution
  • Produce and maintain Powerpoint, Word and Excel templates for use by the Communications team
  • Layout and design support for Powerpoint Presentations and other documents produced by the Communications team;
  • Purchase and prepare for distribution all media giveaways (branded pens, water bottles, dates, t-shirts, media gift packs) and manage the inventory
  • Work with the team to track and follow up on procurement, finance and contract related items
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by the line manager


Knowledge, Qualifications & Skills required


  • 4+ years in a coordinator level office management role
  • Experience delivering high quality services within an office environment
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience working in and with large corporations
  • Experience in coordinating media events, briefings and conferences
  • Experience supporting a team in an administrative capacity
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Strong problem – solving capabilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a positive attitude
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • High level of computer skills – Microsoft office , Excel etc.

  • A degree or diploma within a related field
  • Previous work within international events and large organisations
  • Previous experiences in media/communications
  • Previous experience working in high paced events
  • Language capabilities – written and oral – ideally Arabic, French, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, German
